Conventional P/M often offers advantages over other consolidation methods. Since it is to be considered a near-net-shape processing technology, it can often yield parts which require little or no secondary machining operations. Conventional P/M offers a wide variety of material systems, both ferrous and non-ferrous, and in-the-tool design features from which one may choose. Strategic Mfg Services can provide consulting, fabricating, tooling and sourcing services relating to your powder metal applications including conventional press and sinter, press and sinter with secondary operations, high temperature sintering and metal injection molding.

Metal Injection Molding or MIM, also called Powder Injection Molding or PIM, is a net-shape process for producing solid metal parts that combines the design freedom of plastic injection molding with material properties near that of wrought metals. With its inherent design flexibility, MIM is capable of producing an almost limitless array of highly complex geometries in many different alloys ranging from stainless steels, alloy steels, and soft magnetic materials, controlled expansion materials (low CTE), and custom alloys. Design and economic limitations of traditional metalworking technologies, such as machining and casting, can be readily overcome by MIM.

This process eliminates quality issues with loose wear bands, bearing inserts and fluids. "G" rotors, cams, thrust faces, sliding members all benefit form this unique technology.
